The Czech women had a doubleheader today. With a short break for a late lunch, they played the final two matches of the Oslo tournament. And there was a change. The organisers have modified the stones to increase their spin. Instead of yesterday's three feet, today we were suddenly at five and a half. We expected the grinding to affect the speed of the stones by making them a bit slower, but the slowdown came towards the end of the match. The second game was the more interesting of the two games played (we lost to the Norwegians in today's first game). The opponents were the future Olympic representatives from Italy with a rich support team led by the experienced Soren Grane. The Italians won, but the Czech women showed determination and resisted until the end of the eighth end. The Czech men will also not be looking at the extra time as, although they won today's last match, they will not play on Sunday, as will the women, due to three earlier losses. So tomorrow will be just a travel day for the Czech curling team. The players will take away plenty of incentives for further work.
