Czech women seventh!

The heartbreaking conclusion to the 2009 World Junior Championship round robin in Vancouver brought something of a revolt from the teams at the bottom of the table. First the Swedes sensationally but deservedly beat the Canadians, then the Danes confidently outplayed the Americans and finally the Czechs prevailed over the favoured Russians. All this was preceded by a ceremonial presentation of the Czech team to the audience and the singing of the Czech national anthem. The Czechs won the match with 80% success rate and thus showed their best performance so far. The Russians definitely wanted to win - it was a good starting position for the play-offs. In the end, Fomina didn't have strong enough nerves and in the tenth end, against three Czechs in rings, she threw the last draw. This result means that the Czechs are seventh in the final standings (thanks to a very good DSC, among other things), but they still have to fight in the tie-break to keep their direct participation in the World Championship next year. Tomorrow at 9:00 local time against the Danes and in case of failure a second chance against the French at 14:00.
