This afternoon's China-Canada women's final promised to be a good sporting experience. The Chinese women escaped with a three in the third end and managed to maintain their lead. If they made mistakes, they didn't pay any extra price, even the take out that missed the Canadian open stone at the beginning of the ninth end didn't change the fact that the Asians took another interesting trophy to their account. In the men's event, it went to the extra end when Norwegian skip Thomas Loveld gave the Norwegians hope for gold with a precise double take out, after a slight inattention by Nicolas Edin. But the Swedes handled the extra end with ease. A final draw to six feet meant victory for the Nordic quartet. Then it was on to the medal ceremony, the teams' arrival and the evening farewell party at the Harbin Sinoway Hotel with an unconventional programme (magician, gymnast, dancers, musicians, a few mock singers and endless photo opportunities with everyone). The WUG 2009 curling program is exhausted. The girls fly home tomorrow. We have shaken off the disappointment of not being in the semis, fifth place is a sensational achievement that we would have taken without hesitation before the Universiade. In addition, it is an incentive and a stimulus for further work, which seems to bear fruit. Thank you girls!! photo: joint photo of the women's team, medal ceremony and architecture of Harbin
