We are staying at the Quality Expo Hotel, which is the official tournament hotel. A large building with extensive convention facilities provides comfortable accommodations and a hearty breakfast. In addition to the Czech women, the national coach Scoffin is staying here, but so far we have only glimpsed him and have not been able to exchange a word with him. On the other hand, an interesting conversation developed when we met John Shuster's all-star American team. Chris Plys, who I was standing next to waiting for a cappuccino from the hotel vending machine, responded brilliantly to my question about whether he remembered where we first met. He knew it was in 2007 in Eveleth, and when I reminded him of the game he skippered against the Czech juniors that ended in two extra ends, he knew exactly, as I did, that it was played on the sidelines and the ending was marred by a bit of frostbitten ice at the crease. Yeah, that was my hit of the biter and roll out in the first extra. He clarified with a smile. And he was right.

Swiss team Hurlimann, who were our opponents today, ran away with the score in the first two ends when we struggled with our offset and speed. We had to take a big risk after that, and it didn't turn the game around.
