Second meeting with Turkish curling.

Before the afternoon game against the Turkish men (one of the two Turkish men's teams), we were introduced to the crowd and sang the national anthem. We played the game itself awkwardly and only in the second half did we gain the upper hand. The Turks underestimated the time a bit and they had four minutes and something to play the last end, and they should have played a deuce on the extra end. The timekeeper's lapse in the middle of the end came in handy, but the umpires were watching anyway, so the Turks had to rush anyway. We played good defense and had the end under control. 7 to 5 is the final score. The Scots battled with the Latvians next and in the extra end the umpires stopped play just as Scotland's skip Smith was ready for the final draw. After a forced pause, in which the umpires unnecessarily added twelve seconds to the Scottish timeout (without needing them), Smith could no longer concentrate on his throw and switched rings. So the win goes to the Latvians, who then knocked the stone to the top of the circle. photo: Czech women thinking
