The 2025 European Championships are coming to a climax.

The European elite in the women's section consists of Swedes, Scots, Swiss and Norwegians. These teams have made it through to the semi-finals of the 2025 European Championships. Now we know that the Swiss have the bronze, beating the Norwegians. For the young team of Corrie Huerlimann, this is a big boost in the positional battle within the Swiss women's teams, where besides the dominant foursome led by skip Tirinzoni, there are other very good teams. The Scots (Morrison) and the Swedes (Hasselborg) will therefore fight for the gold medals. It is obvious that the only way to get to the top of Europe is through professionalism, or at least semi-professionalism. And considering that the peak of form, when good mental and physical fitness meets plenty of experience, comes later in life for curlers than in other sports, this should be taken into account and the federation's support should be adapted to this.

The men's final could not be the same as the women's, as Scotland had already met Sweden in the semi-finals. In the parallel second semi-final, the Swiss played a deuce against the Italians in the last end and that paved their way to the final. The Scots (Mouat) couldn't beat the Swedes (Edin), losing by three points, and therefore played the bronze medal match, the match of the underdogs. In it they clearly outplayed the even more frustrated Italians (Retornaz) by a high score of 9 : 3. The composition of the final pairing is no surprise, Switzerland (Schwaller) have engaged a stellar support team in the form of Glenn Howard and Vada Peterson, and this seems to be bearing fruit. The Swedes are a stalwart on the European and world stage.

Along with the European championships, Canada is playing a qualifier for the national team position for the Olympics, with Dunstone and Jacobs in the men's final. In the women, Black and Homan. So the curling season is at its hottest. There will be an Olympic qualifying tournament, the World Junior B Championships and the first extra-league weekend in the Czech Republic.
