Randy Ferbey is a dapper gentleman. He turns 50 on May 30, and his belly is showing under his shirt. It doesn't seem like it, but we're still talking about one of the most successful curlers of the last decade, a four-time world champion who has only one goal left: to win the Olympics. "I know the only way to go is to win the Olympic Trials (a Canadian qualifying tournament - arguably the highest quality competition in the world played once every four years), but even though Kevin (Martin) is putting in great performances right now, we will be well prepared and we can beat him. We sat down with the guys years ago, talked everything through, made a plan, committed to certain things and it worked out. I wasn't far from retiring from the sport ten years ago, but we ended up building one of the best teams of all time. And that's without a coach. What he'd have wanted to tell me, I've known for a long time. We tried working with a psychologist. I found that what he advised us to do, we've been doing for years anyway." Says a smiling Randy Ferbey confidently. But he adds modestly while taking the photo: "Sorry, I'm not used to this kind of thing."
