rnIn the morning match the boys defeated China, who had already indicated a certain decline in form in the previous match. A quick 6-2 lead was nice. Liu then gradually reduced the score to 6 : 7, but the following three finished the Chinese off. A valuable win for a possible trip to the playoffs. The women took on an existential match against the Italians, unbeaten in their last two matches. We were up three one after five ends. Then it got wilder. Gaspari countered with a three, we countered with a two. Then the Italians were down two and we were down two again. The last stone of the match was played by Diana Gaspari against the loss after a great come around by our girls. She didn't hit what she wanted to, but it was still enough to dislodge our stone and thus score the other three stones that the Italian girls had in the rings. This qualified the Italians for the extra time along with China. We only have a theoretical chance, for which we need a win by the Finns against the Danes. Tonight, we could get revenge on the men who went against the Italians. But the vendetta didn't work out. The men lost a well-played match in the eighth and ninth ends and have to beat the Dutch tomorrow and hope for a Chinese loss to the Russian.
