Jedna výhra

The Czech women's national team needed to beat the Swiss team Jerger to reach the quarterfinals of the WCT Bern elite tournament. The young Swiss women drew attention to themselves by advancing to the play-offs at last year's Take-out Trophy in Basel. We started nicely with a two, but our opponent countered with a confident three. A very even match culminated in a stone measurement in the eighth end to decide the winner. Our stone was better by a millimetre and we qualified for the quarter-finals. We came fourth overall, which gave us the advantage of the last stone for the first end of the preliminary match. We know our opponents of course, it's one of the slowest playing teams on the circuit, the Swiss Hurlimann. Between matches we ran to grab a bite to eat (our new term for shopping at COOP) and started practice at 6:30 on lane four with red stones. The start is going well for us. We lead 4 : 0, and then after three ends 6 : 2. But the opponent starts to improve gradually, we, on the other hand, make mistakes and fail to react adequately to the excellent play of the Swiss, which forms the basis for more and more points added to their account. We go into the last end one down, but with an advantage. We have the last stone on deuce, but it's an uneasy slide of the opponent's currently best stone behind the guard. We go around the guard, but our stone doesn't have the ideal angle and thus not enough energy to push the yellow stone far enough. So the quarterfinals are the final stop for the Czech women. We played six games on very good ice and we have a good feeling about it overall.
