In 2018 (February 10) I published a short article regarding Jičín curling on my personal blog: www.kubeska.cz. In the text I confessed my admiration and respect for the work of the Jičín curling club. The feelings were based on several visits and coaching consultations directly at the Jičín ice rink. Although I had already expressed my positive opinion about the talent of some young players, I would not have thought that Jičín curling would become an important base for junior representatives. And this is the second year. Last year, the national team participating in the World Championships included guests from other clubs, but this year the team is composed only of members of the club claiming the legacy of the robber Rumcajs. At the World Junior Curling Championships - B 2024, which took place in Lohja, Finland in the past few days, the Jičín juniors won three times and lost three times. The last decisive duel ended with a measurement against us. This relegated the Czechs to the non-advancing place. For practically all members of the team (the exception is Kryštof Žďárský, who represented the team last year), including coach Ondřej Bodlák, it was the first time participating in a competition organized by the World Curling Federation. The Koreans, the Swiss and the Japanese have won their way into the elite company that will play the Junior World Championships next year in the Olympic city of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Once again, the Swedes fell short and ambitious China also failed to participate in the World Championships. Czech curling has one more iron in the fire, however, and that is the Czech women, who will start their competition tomorrow at noon (11 a.m. our time) against the Austrians.
