Despite warnings of a flood calamity, the announced four months of rainfall in three days, and Friday the 13th, the Czech junior curling team is taking part in an international curling tournament in Lodz, Poland, this weekend. The hall, which houses four lanes, has the characteristic address of Sniezna 10, and is pleasant, bright and clean. The cameras and screens are working, the restaurant is also working, the only problem is with WIFI. The foursome of Šimon Pěnička, Kryštof Žďárský, Matěj Kaska and Tomáš Krátký (Daniel Tahal stayed at home), together with coaches Ondřej Bodlák and Karel Kubeška, have two matches under their belts after Friday's programme, with a total of one point for a forfeit draw in the second duel. The ice spins roughly four feet and with minor fluctuations, the speed stays between fourteen and fourteen half-second hog-hog. This tournament is the first of a series of preparatory competitions that the young players will undertake before the World Championships in December. Gaining experience is the main goal for the following days, and this is because most of the Jičín champions have not yet played enough tense games on good, functioning ice against quality, seasoned opponents. Tomorrow we will have two more games, and after the first one is over, the teams will be divided into three performance levels in which they will play the rest of the competition. The women's junior B team, who are also present, have a similar schedule.
