On Wednesday, October 12, 2016, the Pavel Kolar Center for Movement Medicine hosted a conference that focused on the topic of school youth sports in the South Town area, particularly the Prague 11 district. AR delta, through the Academy of Ice Sports, invited representatives of institutions representing the issue of youth sports and initiated a discussion with representatives of school facilities in the region.
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Czech Olympic Committee, the Prague City Council and representatives of sports that need an ice surface for their operation debated with school principals and physical education teachers, especially on the topic of financing, methodological support, organization and the way of using future capacities, namely the Ice Sports Complex at the Ke Kateřinky Primary School. Kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in the South Town will have the opportunity to offer their children organised sports activities in the Ice Sports Complex, the construction of which is supported by Prague 11 and the City Hall. Prague. In addition to the above-mentioned institutions, the Czech Union of Sport and the National Institute for Education welcome the project, which has already received a positive opinion on the EIA documentation. Most of the conference time was consumed by the topic of teaching skating and its contemplated forms, both within the school timetable and in the form of interest groups and specialised courses outside the normal school timetable. From the comments of the experts present, it was clear that there are still administrative and technical barriers that make the process of incorporating additional hours of physical activities into the school curriculum difficult to apply.
Conference participants readily agreed on the need to repeat similar meetings, noting that addressing the entire issue requires an active approach not only from schools and sports facility operators, but also from relevant institutions and professional bodies.
