Coronavirus.

It is a topic that is all around us. It attacks us from the media, from social media, from notices that are in many public places, including curling clubs. Before our last practice at the Garrison club, by the way, I perceive that the coronavirus is being discussed at almost every table. These are short humorous remarks, but also insightful, almost expert comments. There's just been an announcement on the TV screen about the cancellation of a major sporting event. The guy at the next table gets up and asks us if the curling championship is going to take place. Really? We don't know. So far, it seems like it is, but the nervousness is building and the questions are getting more and more, with answers completely missing. We are in contact with some WCF officials and are of course gathering information where we can. On my brief visit today to a local exhibit of Canadian activities related to the Cold War period, the sympathetic guide says with a smile that we limit personal contact these days, so he won't shake my hand in farewell, although he would like to. Despite the fact that curling is a non-contact sport, contact between players, coaches, volunteers, spectators and journalists naturally occurs. We will be surprised by the WCF's reaction to the WHO's announcement of the pandemic nature of the spread of the disease and will adapt to what the WCF has to say. We want to contribute to the smooth and safe conduct of the 2020 Women's World Cup.
