Qualification for World 2020.

Czech curling has only two irons in the fire (oh the cliché) for the remaining world championships. Three actually, namely wheelchair (Wetzikon), women (Prince George) and mixed doubles (Kelowna). I'm not counting the senior national teams. This past week, the Czech men battled in Lohja, Finland to return to the world top 13. However, three wins and four losses were not enough to make the playoffs. In the men's section, China qualified for the World Championships, along with Russia. In the women's event, the Koreans expectedly won and the Italians beat the Turks in the other final. In both categories, the representatives of Mexico finished last without a win. It should be a topic of reflection for the World Curling Organization why one of the maximum eight places in the world qualification belongs to Mexico or possibly Brazil, even though they are countries that are in one of the last places in a world ranking of more than sixty member countries. Participation in the sub-elite eight would better suit others in terms of performance. The Czechs (the photo is from the successful 2019 European Championships - Helsingborg) confirmed their sixteenth position in the world with the result and will be looking for a direct qualification to the World Championships from Group A at the next European Championships. In the second half of the season (March, April) we will be eagerly watching the results of the Czech curlers who will fight for the best possible position at the World Championships, bringing the Czech Republic closer to participation at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
