At 14:00 local time, I was sitting on the coaches' bench with Olga Andrianova (now in her eleventh year of coaching the Russian women's team at all levels - just a Russian Alex Fergusson), having Russian-English conversations. Yes, the opponent was the Russians and we knew it would be tough. Perhaps a bit of fatigue played a part in some of our inaccurate stones in what was a fairly even match, but one in which the Russians were consistently slightly ahead. The bright moment was a game played without advantage to a score of 3 : 5, but the "sborna" did not allow any more complications and we write our second loss so far at WUG 09. That is a total of four wins and two losses. We still need to win something to think about the semi. The Japanese defeated the still sovereign China - the stands were silent, the Swedes, the Americans and the Canadians won. Our favourite Chinese driver and Wey Wey took us to a local attraction in the early evening - the Ice City. Replicas of the world's famous buildings made of ice, snow sculptures, slides, disco music, Viennese waltz, praying people at a huge snow statue of Buddha, polar fox, draft dogs, bobsleigh, etc etc. Just a bit of Matejska, a bit of fun, a bit of relaxation. An unusual experience by any standards, for which one had to dress very well.
