The 2021 European Championship has begun.

The elite group of the 2021 European Championship had its opening round today at 9am with the women's category. The Czech team took on the Swedes on lane one. The match, which culminated in a hit played by Anna Hasselborg against a losing team, was very evenly matched and also played with great care by both sides. The Swedes played the fourth end with a one against our advantage, and this proved decisive. We were one step behind until the end. The afternoon was spent watching the men's game against Holland. The Czech men meet the Dutch often and will meet them at the Olympic qualifiers. After six ends the match was better played by the opponent. But the two-point deficit was eliminated in the seventh end and in the eighth end there was even a one against. In a nervous ending, after mistakes on both sides, the Dutch skip finally failed to play a one on the extra end, and so the Czech colours rejoiced. The women had another very tough opponent in the evening. The Swiss women's team (skip Tirinzoni) is a constant on the world stage and is undeniably one of the best teams on the circuit. We missed the beginning and that was decisive. A decent match with increased risk in the eighth end at 3 to 6 with no advantage, brought exciting game situations and well played stones. The Swiss got two for two and we judged it unsolvable. Tomorrow we will face the Turks, who are playing well here so far and just played a great match against the Swiss.
