Women's World Cup 2024 - Sydney.

Forty-two wins in a row at four consecutive world championships is quite a streak. No wonder, then, that when the Canadian women's team (Homan) managed to beat the Swiss team (Tirinzoni), it was an event. Eventually, there was a repeat of this duel, in the World Championship final. And again the overseas team (Homan, Miskew, Fleury, Wilkes) was more successful. They deservedly took home the gold medals - even though this time they had "Mens championship 2024" written on them. However, this in no way diminishes the quality and excellence of the play of the foursome of Paetz, Tirinzoni, Witschonke and Howald. The pressure on them after four titles since 2019 was extraordinary. The championship tournament is an extremely demanding undertaking with at least twelve matches in a single common pool, played over six days. It takes very well-prepared female athletes, both physically and mentally, to handle such a portion. The championship, this time located in the Canadian city of Sydney (Centre 200 arena) had all the necessary attributes, including good ice and an excellent sporting atmosphere. The Czechs were missing, for whom two wins at the European Championships were not enough to participate in the season's highlight. A slight surprise for those who follow women's curling less was the participation of Dánek and Skotek. In addition to the above mentioned teams ranked in the top six, the Koreans, Swedes and Italians also made it to the World Championships. The first Olympic points have been handed out, for the women this season is actually over and they can enjoy some well-deserved time off, except for those still playing in Toronto and Dumphries in the spring.
