Aritma's day off. We need to arrive to acclimatize, which is harder than we thought. The trip around the peninsula is wonderful thanks to the improved weather. The highlight is a visit to a nature reserve where albatrosses reside. Thanks to a lucky encounter with Sam, who is not only the reserve manager but also a curling umpire at the Winter Games, we not only see several nesting giant birds with a wingspan of around three metres, but also catch a glimpse of an aerial manoeuvre by one of them. On the way back to Dunedin we take some interesting nature scenes. A rarity in Dunedin is the steepest street in the world - Baldwin street. The local railway station is a beautiful building and the town centre is interesting with its octagon-shaped square.
