The women's competition has already reached the semi-final duels. Canada easily held on to its chance for gold with a clear win over the Swedes. The match between third and fourth was much more even. Most of us favored the Swiss, especially after several unconvincing performances by the American women in the round-robin. Skip Carlson, however, read the ice and her teammates very well, and with some great rolls, the Americans went into the last end up two but without an advantage. The fans' duel sounded for the Swiss, the Americans were funnier (the phrase "I am Sophie Brorson" (lead USA) was shouted across the hall by several enthusiasts and even tore down the players on the ice) Perhaps a minor tactical error eventually caused Siegrist (skip of the Swiss) to face the unsolvable task of knocking three of her opponent's stones out of the rings with her last stone and still keeping her own stone in the rings. So the Americans are going up against the Swedes for the final! In the men's semi-finals, the Canadians got the better of the Norwegians (again wearing colourful trousers) after a tie-break. The Scots and the Chinese will fight it out.
