First sunny day. Poland.

The morning was just beautiful. The sun illuminated the high mountain peaks that surround Cortina and the temperature went up a few degrees. We took a fitness walk and, decently tired, sat down to lunch in the restaurant next to the hotel (something like a curling rink) where the French, Austrians, Swedes, Chinese, Scots, etc. were having lunch. The local cuisine is great and the local tiramisu is a wonderful treat. We didn't have a match until the evening, so I looked up some information on the opponents. The Poles are one of several teams that specialize in the Mixed Doubles category, and you can tell there is a minimum of "big curling" bad habits in their routines. We definitely had respect for them. We started the match itself very concentrated and hardly made any mistakes. On the other hand, our opponent played some inaccurate stones in the first end, which culminated in a short draw against a four. The third end was important, in which we saved the game with the last draw on the freeze (domed on the position 2 cm closer to the center). Minor hesitations did not change the relatively safe lead until the very end. The result of 8 : 4 means a fifth win. In our group, the Swiss already have seven wins and have therefore already qualified for the semi-finals. Tomorrow we will face the Latvians at 11.15 and then we will see.
