The first day of competition brought only losses for both Czech teams. The women were the first to lose in an evenly matched duel with the Scots. From a promising situation after half of the match, when both teams had the same number of stones, the Scots lost two points and gained one more in the ninth end. The three-point deficit was already unresolvable in the last end. After the match, Eve Muirhead, captain of the Scots, complimented the Czechs, saying that Anna Kubeskova's team is always a tough and difficult opponent. In the men's round, the Czech men succumbed to the focused Norwegians. We wanted our first win in the women's evening game against the Estonians. The development of the match was characterized by ends played with the lowest possible score. The extreme track had its own minor tricky issues, which the teams faced with alternating success. We lost the lead we had painstakingly built up in the last end, and despite having the advantage of the last stone, got two behind in the tenth end, which was enough for the Estonians to win. We are rather bitter about the loss, but we still have six more matches to play and we will give the rest of our strength to them.
