Friday was not only the first match day, but also a day of officialities that included a visit to the stadium by the Danish prince. The likeable youngster, as he did four years ago, fearlessly used the high slide to play the ceremonial stone, and then somewhat ignored the WCF President and chatted with the Danish men's team, who will try to advance from the B to the A (so far they have a win over Belgium!). We were scheduled to play a seasoned Latvian team, who have not only won Group A of the European Championships, but have also participated in well-attended international tournaments. The start found us searching for a weight. We managed the defensive well, but once it came to creating, we struggled to put our opponents under pressure with a quality draw. We went into the last endgame without a one-down advantage and forced Reggae to play hit stay against the extra endgame and possibly a losing game (biter on the side). The skip of the Latvians handled it well and the final score was 5 : 7. This was the second match for the Latvians (they narrowly beat the Polish girls in the first). There might have been a small disadvantage for us. But it has to be said that the opponent played very well, practically without big mistakes and hit the right spots better.
rnThe opening ceremony was standard, and the opening banquet tonight will probably be just as standard. The Danes seem to have used ctrl copy and ctrl paste from the 2011 WC to keep the logistics under control. It certainly doesn't matter, things work as they should and the people are pleasant.
