Broken ice king and opening ceremony.

This afternoon's training in Hall B was significantly affected by a fact that was announced by the head umpire. The ice king broke down and because of that the edge lanes are practically unplayable. The one-hour training session was reduced to less than forty minutes, but even so we found that the ice reading would be very decisive, as most of the lanes showed significant irregularities. They did promise to pour more overnight, but we were under no illusions. The team meeting was long, and aside from information about rule changes, we didn't learn anything groundbreaking. The travel between Monthey (where we play) and Champery (where we live) is about 20 minutes by bus through all the twists and turns, but the scenery is breathtaking. The men's team practiced in the A's arena in the early evening. The opening ceremony, containing the necessary speeches, was dignified and reasonably long. Our first opponents are the women of Wales, tomorrow at twelve.
