The 2019 Shorty Jenkins Classic knows its winners.

We're already out of the game. One win in four games wasn't enough to make the playoffs. In the embedded shoot-out, we finished in the middle of the table with a score of just over a metre, with Team Jacobs in the men's section playing zero. The rules state that each player or team plays a draw on the button, the distances from the centre are added up and the worst of the four plays is not counted. The dominance of the Canadian teams was confirmed by their participation in the finals, with Team Epping beating Team Jacobs of Canada in the men's event and Team Jones winning over Fleury in the women's event. Both teams were also from Canada. In a bit of a spicy twist, all four gold medalists from the 2014 Sochi Olympics met in the men's final, but this time Ryan Fry was wearing Team Epping colours. In the women's event, the Sochi Olympic gold team won, but Fleury was joined by Jill Officer, who played number two in Sochi. In short, quality doesn't disappear even as you get older. It was an extraordinary tournament, with lots of fabulous stones, slight nuances in the application of tactics affected by rule changes, but also a lot of nice and sympathetic people right at the Cornwall Curling Club. We had a friend from Montreal, Steve, who has been cheering us on since our last visit to Montreal in 2014. He met the new players in the team and is looking forward to coming again. We are also looking forward to seeing him. photo: Steve and the team
