rnAnna Kubešková played her first match against Eve Muirhead in 2007 at the World Junior Curling Championships in Eveleth, USA, and won. Since then, Eve has become a world-class curler who has also won an Olympic medal. The Scottish team has seen one change, and that is the removal of the bespectacled Anna Sloan from the line-up and the replacement of Jennifer Dodds. We didn't get the advantage for the first end. We forced our opponents to play a one, but then we got another one and didn't do too well. The one with the advantage in the third end was not enough, but we made up for it with another one without an advantage. We went into the break one down with the advantage. The sixth end was exceptional as we applied a lot of pressure which bore fruit in the form of a four. But it didn't end there. The two teams traded ones and in the ninth the Scots turned on and played for three after two, admittedly very good stones from Anna, but always just short of complete satisfaction. The tenth end was the decider. Opponent two guards, we two come aroundy. A series of clearings followed (Terka and Betka) and we decided to play the first Anna around a pair of stones placed at the beginning of the circle. A fabulous come around stopped on the tee line and Muirhead tried a light tap after a time out, but licked the guard and it was over. We're delighted with the win. The girls got an unexpected rose from the fans. We're enjoying the satisfaction of our first win for a while, but we have to keep our emotions in check. Tomorrow is a tough day with two more games. The Czech men beat the Slovaks in a tough match with a deuce in the last end. Congratulations.
