Scottish Splash and the Great Wall of China.

From the headline, it would seem that we got showered once and bumped a second time, but that's not the case. The Scotland game was very even all the way through. There were small chances for both teams to escape, but they didn't take them. At the end of the ninth end, with the score at 4 : 3, the Czech team, at their disadvantage, chose a slightly risky last stone which, if it had failed, could have put the Scots into deuce, and thus into a one lead before the last end. Skip Jiri Snitil played the stone bravura and David Murdoch could only place his stone towards the middle and take the one. The development of the last end was not very favorable. The Czechs went into the last stone with little hope of success, and this hope was left only by the not quite accurately played final guard of the Scots. Our team, however, managed the last stone with more than 100% and the Czech fans erupted in enthusiasm. The victory over Scotland is very valuable and the Czech boys should be congratulated. The Scots licked the Scottish splash themselves. Not long after the end of the afternoon round, which was also won by the Swiss, Germans and Danes, the evening round followed with an ever improving China. I came in at the end of the third end from a meeting with Les Harrison (WCF President) and the score was 2-0 to us and we had just forced China to play only one with their advantage. However, the fourth end was the turning point. Our last stone played against a five pushed only one Chinese and we were 5 : 2 down. The next two ends were about ones, although the Czechs tried to create good scoring situations. The seventh end sealed it all, the draw against the four only dropped one stone, China registered a three and we shook hands. The Chinese wall was impenetrable for us today. The Canadians had six ends to beat the Norwegians, as did the French against the Finns. The Danes beat the Japanese.rn
