Today's, that is Wednesday's match schedule decided a lot of things. In the men's division, the top four qualifiers for the playoffs are already known. They are Italy, Scotland, Switzerland and Sweden. Spain and Denmark are in the B group. The Czechs, in eighth place before the final round, are assured of retaining Group A for next year. In the women's division, you know who's going down. It's the Hungarians and Latvians, who are winless so far before the return leg. The Danes and the Swiss are going into the play-offs, but there will be a big fight for the other two positions in the last round. Men's Group B knows the only certain participant in the extra time so far, and that is the somewhat unexpectedly young French team led by veteran coach Thierry Mercier, who has his son Eddy as a skip. Spain are certain to drop out of the women's B, with the second relegation to be decided tomorrow. The Czechs, Estonians, Lithuanians and one other, as yet unknown, participant are headed to the extra stage. While the Czech men had only one game today, against Germany (8 : 4 win), the women played a winning game against the Spanish women in the morning (11 : 2) and then an equally winning game against the Finnish women in the afternoon (13 : 4). On the Czech team's schedule are only the Danes, who the men will play tomorrow morning at 8:00, and the Slovaks, who will play the Czechs. The women's team will play the extra time on Friday. It's still cold and snowing a bit, but we're bravely walking to and from the arena and taking it as part of our warm-up and post-match cool-down.
