The Czech curlers had already planned to attend this tournament last season. For organizational reasons, however, it didn't work out, so this year they are presenting themselves in this cozy Stockholm club for the very first time. The quadrangle, which is part of a large sports complex, recently celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. The club's honorary president Hakan Sundstroem and his wife came to see today's programme, and it was nice to meet again after all these years and give each other news. The Czech women, namely Aneta Müllernova, Karolína Špundová, Michaela Baudyšová and Alžběta Zelingrová, started Thursday with an hour-long practice session, where they were welcomed by tournament director Henrik Alexander. They were victorious in their first match against a Swiss team playing under the banner of three curling centers (Flims, St. Gallen, Baden), with the final score on the scoreboard being 8 : 4. The second match was even until the very end, when the Czechs entered the eighth end with a two-point lead, and that was enough to score a second win, this time by a single point - 5 : 4 - after a final hit by the younger of the Hürlimann sisters. The speed of the ice is already 14.5 at the end of the first practice session and then varies between 14.5 and 15.2 depending on the chosen trajectory. A spin rate of five to five and a half feet with a strong finish is great for a creative yet aggressive game concept. We're enjoying it here so far and we're confident it will last.
