The Czech teams at this year's European Championships were worse than at last year's. The men defended their Group A berth for next year with a win over the Finns, but did not qualify for the worlds. It might seem like no big deal, as there is no fight for Olympic points this year, but it's a shame that our best men's team won't be comparing their performance with the world's best at the World Championships. In the fight for the last qualification place for the world, the Danes swept the Dutch. Our women came up hard against the ever-improving top teams of Group B. The Latvians, who few had counted on, beat the ambitious Dutch in the extra end and finally won in two games against the Finns to go to the world! Our team finished fourth in Group B, far beyond expectations. European champions are the Swedes (Edin). In the superstructure they won against both Norwegians and Swiss, so the young Swedish skip (24) added to the gold from Universiade 2009 and the gold from European Championship 2009. The women are dominated by veteran Andrea Schoepp with another veteran Monika Wagner (Germany). The gold from Europe is Andrea's seventh in this category. We, the Czechs, have no choice but to evaluate Europe and get to work. No catastrophe has happened, but it is certainly a raised finger.
