rnWe spent the afternoon in the gym and after lunch we went to Oakville for training. The ice is fast and reasonably spinny. The hog hog is about 14.5 and the swing is 4.5 feet. An hour was enough time to get our bearings. The curling complex has a huge underground locker room riddled with dozens of lockers with combination locks. Most places are carpeted or rugged, and there are giant round tables in the clubhouse and one row of chairs to watch behind glass. Lots of familiar faces, such as Jock Tyre, who never fails to point out how much he loves the Prague Curling Club, where I think he's been twice as an Adult Camp instructor. Not only the world's best teams, but also a plethora of successful and experienced coaches (Al Moore, Marcel Rocque, Bob Ursel, Rodger Schmidt, etc.), just the start of the season as it should be. After practice, we're heading downtown to get a bird's eye view of Toronto. We take the elevator up to 360 metres, and then add another 100 metres and we have this big city right in front of us. The attraction is a glass floor and a chasm of several hundred metres below. There are kids rolling around on the glass, not even reading that this particular floor can hold "only" 4 whales (according to the writing on the wall). Pleasantly tired, we arrive at our Mississauga lodge in the evening. First match tomorrow.
