The last day of competition of the Round Robin section of the 2014 WJC brought two matches for the Czech women. We still had ambitions for the play-offs, but we had to win both games. First up was the Russian team. So far the Russians have been showing good performances based on a quality, very aggressive defining game concept. We entered the match well and kept up with our opponent in the beginning. However, the Russians were gradually more accurate and we started to lose contact, especially after we failed to take advantage of the chances offered. At the end the difference in quality was more visible and that's why the match ended prematurely. The only match where we really couldn't keep up with a better opponent. A well-deserved win for the Russians. The last opponent was Korea, which has so far shown a very good performance. The Asian girls' strengths are their diligence, hard work and polished technique. The final result was affected by two mistakes in the first part, when instead of an easy three we took only a two and also missed the final clearing, giving our opponent a one. In the tenth end we were one down with no advantage and created a good chance to win by having three well placed stones and Kim playing against losing. She didn't lose her nerve and played a one. The Koreans are now moving into the playoffs from first place. The Czech team finishes seventh. We are the fourth best European team and we achieved the third best ranking in the history of participation in the World Championships. We qualified the Czech Republic directly for the next World Championships. We wanted a bit more, but we lost the two matches in which we had the last stones to win and maybe even a bit of luck was missing this time. A solid performance, for which I thank all the girls. Especially Zuzka, Iveta and Klara, for whom it was the last time this year. Girls, it was very nice, and Czech curling is proud of you!
