In the first round on Saturday, the Czech team Farková lost to the Swiss team and in the following round the Czech national team (team Kubešková) played against another Swiss team. Namely Hurlimann. The Hurlimann family clan is historically extremely successful. Currently, two young players, Corie and Briar, are in the spotlight, the older of which is already a world champion. Mum Janet is a three-time World Championship representative for Switzerland and has a bronze medal from the World Championships (1992, Ga-Pa). Daddy Patrick is the 1998 Olympic champion (Nagano, Karuisawa). Briar, by her marriage, has linked her family to another big curling name, namely Schwaller (bronze medal at the 2002 Olympics). We played against a team led by Corie Hurlimann. Before the game, Patrick and I discussed some shared memories and we also recalled a duel between us at the European Championships, played shortly after his success at the Olympics. The match between the two contenders for promotion from Group D was close for a long time. We managed to get the sixth and seventh end without any advantage, and that made the difference. In the eighth we stuck to the set plan and kept the win. The fourth match in the group, which followed immediately after the extremely long previous match (2 hours 45 minutes), pitted a young team, led by skip Heidimann, against us. A solidly fought match ended with us winning 6 : 2 and after all the results were taken into account, we rose to the top of our group, which means we are in the play-offs. Tomorrow at 8 o'clock we will face the quarterfinals.
