Victory in the last game.

It's always much better to leave a tournament after winning the last match. And at the Olympics, this is probably twice as true. Before the last round of the Round Robin Mixed Doubles in Cortina d'Ampezzo, much had already been decided. For example, the Canadians would not advance to the playoffs, as they could finish as low as eighth if they lost to Switzerland. Or that the playoff spots were already fully occupied by the British, Italians, Americans, and Swedes. But also that whoever lost the Czechia-Estonia match would be tenth, i.e. last. Norway and Korea were also playing only for placement, with the loser finishing ninth. Julie and Vít did not gain an advantage for the first end, but that did not change the fact that their final DSC was excellent and they finished in first place in this discipline. It could still play a role after all the matches were played. The match itself was heavily tilted in favor of Czechia by a four-point end without the advantage of the last stone. A moment of inattention and a subsequent mistake probably cost Estonia the match. The Czechs did not let the opportunity slip and won 8:4. Overall, eighth place and a record of three wins and six losses can be considered a success, especially when we realize that the Czech tandem had minimal extra time for targeted preparation during a period that is sensitive in terms of fulfilling school obligations. We must not forget the almost won match against the British, when only time pressure and the resulting poor decisions at the very end denied Julia and Vít the joy of victory against the hot favorites. The bad statistics will be forgotten and already now are not intersting for most of the people.

The Czech pair had a successful debut, and their joy and feelings of happiness are justified. Along with them comes a sense of relief that everything turned out well in the end. Congratulations! Photo: Julie is happy
