WSCC 2015 in Iceberg - Sochi.

On Thursday, the Czech senior and mixed doubles teams moved to Sochi, Russia. Spending two hours at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow is a good school to appreciate our usual Czech marasmus. Mass overtaking, unempathic ushers, ubiquitous Russian, these are the hallmarks of a stay here. The training in the Iceberg hall showed that the ice is really brutal (G. Muirhead's expression). Swing is almost seven feet, speed 13.3. A little different from what we're used to back home. Both senior teams were looking for offsets and struggling with rotation during practice, but in the end both were pretty much sorted out and we were able to proceed to the first game. The Czech newcomers in the men's over 50 category were christened by the Scots and they took it responsibly. The team of Muirhead, Brown, Aitken and Hay dealt the Czechs (Neznal, Hobzík, Hasenohrl and Zelenka) a five in the first end and it took our team two more ends to recover from the opening. After that the match was more even, but the experience of the Scots was evident. Ireland, Canada, Japan and the Finns won the match 8 : 4. The ceremony is about to start and the men's next opponent in the afternoon. The women's team will be in action tomorrow.
