Mosty - "Behind the curtain of individual athlete development." The next installment of the conference series aimed primarily at sports coaches took place in the pre-Christmas period, a week before Christmas Eve. Once again, it was almost full, which proves that Czech sports coaches are interested in useful information and want to hear the opinions of other coaches and compare their views on athlete training with their own. The speakers were Stefan Weissenbȏck (basketball), Milan Moník (volleyball), David Scott (sports psychologist specializing in hockey), and Milan Barda (handball) with Pavel Francouz (hockey). David Scott gave a dynamic presentation enriched with dramatic videos and examples from the Canadian NHL. The system used to prepare basketball players was interesting, but it was not easy to imagine how to use it for working with curlers. I was most impressed by the interview with Michal Barda (a phenomenal Czech goalkeeper) and Pavel Francouz (an excellent hockey goalkeeper) moderated by Slavomír Lener. Interesting ideas, good insights, inspiring recommendations, and personal experiences from their rich careers thrilled everyone present. Even though it was well past the scheduled end of the program, most of those present waited for both gentlemen to answer questions posed by Jirka Nikodým and rewarded the discussants with applause. It was a productive day and provided plenty of inspiration that can be applied to our specific curling environment.
