We were ready for a challenging day of curling. Korea is playing well and the USA has a young team bolstered by World Curling bronze medalist Richard Maskell. The match against Korea was very even until the ninth end. We just didn't hold our breath and let Korea win with occasional mistakes. It's unfortunate because we kept up with the young ambitious team from the East and had several chances to head towards victory. In between games we had a visit to a sheep farm where Peter explained some of the ins and outs of working with sheep, especially assessing the quality of the wool. We then visited one of the local former gold miners or prospectors. Riggs surprised us by saying that "there is still plenty of gold everywhere, but now there are tourists here and there is more money to be made from them". This afternoon's match with the USA was broadcast on SKY sport. We played well. We were one down after nine ends and went into the last end with the advantage. Interestingly, Jirko had a stone taken away for breaking the hog line rule, but the TV replayed his throw several times and it is likely that there was no rule violation. In the end, we were five inches shorter than our opponent on the last draw, and so the win was written by the Americans. I think it was a good show for the TV audience. We are sad but determined to play our best in tomorrow's last match.
