The last match against Denmark was an even duel until the seventh end, when we scored a four, we were four up and we managed the last end. Next on the track, the Estonians beat the Hungarians, and since we had the second DSC of the third-place teams (39.7 cm, Australia had about 19.0 cm, the Estonians somewhere behind us), we were going to play Estonia for the quarterfinals. Our first end, then a series of 3, 2, 1 by the Estonians and then us again, this time for four. 6 : 6 after five ends. In the sixth, disaster struck. We threw ourselves out on one side, always half a metre longer and a bit outside, and the last stone on the other side inside the guard. The Estonians (Lill + Lill) played flawlessly and the result was six better stones of the opponent in the circles. We still tried to play something in the seventh, but the Estonians didn't let us do anything, on the contrary they countered with great stones. The opponent was better, in some moments (runback double, heavy and risky throw to six, split of a perfectly frozen stone) we really had no way to play something. We again (for the third or fourth time) complained about the dirt on the ice. The gouge that our stone carved into the ice (3rd end) remained clearly visible until the end. Result 7 : 12. We are sad. We could have played more, but in all-out games, little is enough, and it's hard to come back. So the Czech Republic finishes in ninth place, three worse than last year (with several countries, notably Canada, missing out). We didn't miss the quarterfinals by that much, but we still fell short of our goal and will have to work harder to improve. Thanks to Jirka and Terka for their support, also to Jirka Marsha for his encouraging and comforting words. Of course, I will give the results of the superstructure. We are already thinking about a safe return home. photo: coach and Anna before the game
