I was about to write a series of posts from one of the youngest events organized by the World Curling Federation, namely the World Curling Championship Qualifiers, but I have other things on my mind. What happened a few days ago to the juniors in the B championship, here in Lohje, Kisakallio, has worked out for us. At least they managed to play almost the entire round robin. The juniors, they didn't make it at all. The competition was preemptively cancelled before it started. The Czech adult curlers arrived in Finland on Sunday after noon directly deprived of one teammate who failed the Covid 19 test already in Prague. Another blow came in the form of the results from the pre-tournament testing at the venue. Two more players tested positive. On top of that, the Finnish authorities changed the rules and quarantined two negative Czechs who are classified as "close contact". I flew in late on Sunday evening because I was still playing in Prague in the extraliga, which postponed my testing to Monday morning and at the same time I cannot be classified as "close contact". First thing in the morning, after my passing the very unpleasant testing procedure, we are frantically thinking of solutions and figuring out the possibilities. There aren't many. The arranged reinforcement from Prague in the form of one of the talented juniors will not be needed. The organizers tell us that the Finnish medical authorities will not allow anyone present to play, even if the next test is negative. The Czech federation decides not to send a replacement team to Finland. That's basically it. Actually, it's not, we still have to return home. But more on that tomorrow.
